Zechariah 11 (vv. 14-17)

After breaking the second staff, Union, Zechariah signifies the severing of brotherhood between Judah and Israel. Then a foolish and worthless shepherd is portrayed rising over the land, one who neglects the lost, the young, the injured, and the healthy alike. Instead of caring for the flock, he devours what is best. The prophetic oracle ends with a curse: the sword strikes his arm and right eye, symbolizing the collapse of his power and vision.
