Zechariah 11 (vv. 4-8)

Zechariah takes up the role of shepherd over a flock marked for slaughter, especially the afflicted among them. He stands among vulnerable sheep holding two staffs named Favor and Union, symbols of divine care and communal bond. Yet the flock is exploited by buyers and sellers, and corrupt shepherds fail them. In a short span, three shepherds are removed, but mutual weariness and rejection grow between shepherd and flock.

스가랴는 도살당할 양 떼, 특히 그 가운데서도 억눌린 양들을 돌보는 목자의 역할을 맡는다. 그는 ‘은총’과 ‘연합’이라 불리는 두 지팡이를 들고 연약한 양들 사이에 서 있는데, 이는 하나님의 돌보심과 공동체의 결속을 상징한다. 그러나 양 떼는 사고파는 자들에게 착취당하고, 타락한 목자들은 그들을 아끼지 않는다. 짧은 기간 안에 세 목자가 제거되지만, 목자와 양 떼 사이에는 피로와 거부감이 점점 깊어진다.
