Zechariah 1 (vv. 18-21)

Zechariah sees four horns, symbols of the powers that scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem and left the people crushed and humiliated. Then four craftsmen appear, sent to terrify and cast down those oppressive horns. Rather than graphic violence, the vision presents a dramatic reversal: the forces of scattering are confronted by purposeful agents of divine justice, and the people who could not lift their heads are given hope that oppression will not stand forever.

스가랴는 유다와 이스라엘과 예루살렘을 흩어 버린 세력들을 상징하는 네 뿔을 본다. 그 뿔들은 백성을 짓눌러 고개조차 들지 못하게 했다. 이어서 네 명의 대장장이가 나타나 그 뿔들을 두렵게 하고 내던지기 위해 보내심을 받는다. 이 환상은 잔혹한 폭력보다 극적인 전환을 보여 준다. 흩어지게 하던 세력이 하나님의 정의의 도구들 앞에 맞서게 되고, 고개를 들지 못하던 백성에게 압제가 영원히 지속되지 않으리라는 소망이 주어진다.
