Song of Songs 2 (vv. 15-17)

The final scene blends watchfulness and devotion. The warning about little foxes that ruin the blooming vineyards suggests small threats to a love that is alive and growing. The woman then declares the mutual belonging of the lovers: 'My beloved is mine and I am his,' while he grazes among the lilies. As the day cools and shadows lengthen, she calls for him to turn and be like a gazelle on the rugged hills until dawn breaks and darkness retreats. The scene closes in longing, trust, and poetic distance.
