Description
To finalize the legal transaction according to ancient custom, the guardian-redeemer removes his sandal and gives it to Boaz. In front of the elders and the gathered people, Boaz publicly declares that he has bought Naomi’s property and taken Ruth as his wife in order to preserve the name of the dead. The symbolic exchange transforms private obligation into a witnessed covenant act.
