Ruth 4 (vv. 1-2)

Boaz goes up to the town gate, the public place of legal judgment and civic business, and sits down with purpose. When the nearer guardian-redeemer passes by, Boaz calls him over and invites him to sit. He then gathers ten elders of the town to witness the proceedings, establishing the formal and communal nature of what is about to happen.

보아스는 법적 판결과 공동체의 중요한 일이 이루어지던 공적인 장소인 성문으로 올라가 의도적으로 자리를 잡고 앉는다. 더 가까운 기업 무를 자가 지나가자 보아스는 그를 불러 곁에 앉게 한다. 이어서 그는 성읍 장로 열 사람을 모아 증인으로 앉히며, 이제 시작될 일이 공식적이고 공동체적인 절차임을 분명히 한다.
