Romans 9 (vv. 19-24)

A potter works at a wheel, shaping vessels from the same lump of clay into different forms. Some jars are finely crafted for honor, while others are plain and common, yet all remain in the potter’s hands. The scene visualizes Paul’s rhetorical answer to human اعتراض against God’s purposes: the formed thing cannot accuse the maker. It should feel earthy, intimate, and profound, with the potter’s authority and patience emphasized more than harshness.

한 토기장이가 물레에서 같은 진흙 덩어리로 여러 형태의 그릇을 빚고 있다. 어떤 항아리는 귀하게 쓰일 정교한 모습이고, 어떤 것은 평범하고 일상적인 용도의 그릇이지만, 모두 여전히 토기장이의 손 안에 있다. 이 장면은 하나님의 뜻에 대해 인간이 항변할 수 없다는 바울의 수사적 대답을 시각화한다. 지어진 것이 지은 이를 탓할 수 없다는 메시지를 담아야 한다. 장면은 흙냄새 나는 친밀함과 깊이를 지니되, 엄격함보다 토기장이의 권위와 인내가 더 두드러져야 한다.
