Revelation 9 (vv. 7-11)

John describes the locusts in terrifying symbolic detail: they resemble war horses prepared for battle, with crown-like gold upon their heads, human-like faces, hair like women's hair, lions' teeth, and iron breastplates. Their wings thunder like many horses and chariots rushing into combat, and their scorpion tails carry the power to torment. Over them rules the angel of the Abyss, called Abaddon in Hebrew and Apollyon in Greek, the Destroyer. The scene combines military order, unnatural hybridity, and infernal kingship.
