Revelation 9 (vv. 1-2)

At the sounding of the fifth trumpet, John sees a star fallen from heaven to earth, personified as a heavenly being entrusted with the key to the shaft of the Abyss. As the shaft is opened, a massive column of smoke erupts upward like the exhaust of a gigantic furnace, spreading across the sky until the sun is dimmed and the heavens are darkened. The moment marks the release of a restrained realm of judgment and dread.

다섯째 천사가 나팔을 불자, 요한은 하늘에서 땅으로 떨어진 별을 보는데, 그 별은 무저갱의 열쇠를 맡은 존재로 나타난다. 그가 무저갱의 통로를 열자 거대한 화덕의 연기 같은 짙은 연기가 솟구쳐 올라 하늘을 뒤덮고, 해와 공중이 어두워진다. 이 장면은 억눌려 있던 심판과 공포의 세계가 풀려나는 순간을 보여 준다.
