Revelation 17 (vv. 3-5)

In the Spirit, John is carried into a wilderness where he sees a startling vision: a woman seated on a scarlet beast covered with blasphemous names, with seven heads and ten horns. She is dressed in purple and scarlet and adorned with gold, jewels, and pearls, holding a golden cup full of abominations. On her forehead is written the mysterious title identifying her as Babylon the Great, the mother of prostitutes and of the earth’s abominations.

요한은 성령 안에서 광야로 이끌려가 충격적인 환상을 본다. 한 여자가 참람한 이름들로 가득한 붉은 짐승 위에 앉아 있는데, 그 짐승은 일곱 머리와 열 뿔을 가지고 있다. 여자는 자주색과 붉은색 옷을 입고 금과 보석과 진주로 치장했으며, 손에는 가증한 것들로 가득한 금잔을 들고 있다. 그녀의 이마에는 바벨론 큰 성, 음녀들과 땅의 가증한 것들의 어미라는 신비한 이름이 기록되어 있다.
