Description
The psalmist says that divine wrath lies heavily on him and that he is overwhelmed by waves. At the same time, his closest companions have been taken away, leaving him confined and unable to escape. This scene combines external and internal suffering: floodlike pressure crashes over him while social rejection leaves him utterly alone, yet he still stretches out his hands in prayer.
