Psalm 87 (vv. 1-3)

The psalm opens with Zion elevated on the holy mountain, presented as the city founded by the LORD himself. Its gates stand strong and beautiful above the surrounding hills, while the rest of Jacob’s dwellings fade into the background. The scene emphasizes that glorious things are spoken about this city of God, not merely because of its beauty, but because of the divine favor resting upon it.
