Psalm 74 (vv. 1-3)

The psalm opens with a cry of abandonment as the people of God stand before the shattered remains of Mount Zion. They feel like sheep whose shepherd seems distant, and they plead for God to remember the people he redeemed long ago. The scene centers on ancient worshipers looking over the everlasting ruins of the sanctuary, surrounded by broken stones and scorched ground, lifting their hands in grief toward heaven.
