Psalm 60 (vv. 6-8)

This scene shifts from lament to divine proclamation. From the sanctuary, God declares his ownership and authority over Israel's territories and surrounding nations: Shechem, Sukkoth, Gilead, Manasseh, Ephraim, Judah, Moab, Edom, and Philistia. The image presents a symbolic royal panorama of the land, with tribal territories spread out beneath the heavens while signs of kingship and conquest appear—a measuring line, a helmet, a scepter, a washbasin, and a sandal. God's presence is not seen directly, but a glorious light from above or from the sanctuary marks his sovereign voice over all.
