Psalm 134 (vv. 1)

In the stillness of night, the servants of the LORD stand within the temple courts, keeping their sacred watch. The city around them is quiet, but inside the house of the LORD there is wakeful devotion. Priestly attendants and temple servants, dressed in simple ancient garments, remain alert under the dim glow of oil lamps. Their posture and faces show reverence rather than weariness, as they answer the psalmist’s call to bless the LORD during the night hours. The contrast between the dark sky and the warm sanctuary light emphasizes faithful worship continuing even when the world sleeps.

고요한 밤, 여호와의 종들이 성전 뜰 안에 서서 거룩한 파수를 지키고 있다. 성 밖 도시는 잠잠하지만 여호와의 집 안에는 깨어 있는 경건함이 흐른다. 고대 의복을 입은 제사장 보조자들과 성전 종들은 희미한 등잔불 아래에서 깨어 서 있다. 그들의 자세와 표정에는 피곤함보다 경외심이 드러나며, 밤중에도 여호와를 송축하라는 시편의 부름에 응답하고 있다. 어두운 밤하늘과 성소의 따뜻한 빛의 대비는 세상이 잠든 동안에도 계속되는 신실한 예배를 강조한다.
