Description
The latter part of the psalm compresses Israel’s long decline: they mingle with the nations, adopt idolatrous customs, defile the land, and fall under oppression. Yet the final movement turns toward mercy as God hears their cry, remembers his covenant, and the scattered people pray to be gathered from the nations so they may once again give thanks to his holy name. The scene closes the psalm with repentance, rescue, and unified praise.
