Proverbs 26 (vv. 27-28)

A deceitful man works alone in a rocky field, digging a pit for another and straining to roll a heavy stone downhill. Yet the scene turns against him: the ground gives way beneath his own feet, and the stone begins to shift back toward him, embodying the proverb that evil recoils on its maker. In the distance, people wounded by lies and flattery stand apart, showing that destructive speech ruins both victim and speaker. The image closes the chapter with poetic justice and moral inevitability.

속이는 사람이 바위 많은 들판에서 홀로 다른 이를 해치기 위한 함정을 파고, 무거운 돌을 아래로 굴리려 애쓰고 있다. 그러나 장면은 그 자신에게 되돌아온다. 그의 발밑 땅이 무너지고, 돌은 오히려 그를 향해 되굴러오기 시작하여 악이 결국 행한 자에게 돌아온다는 잠언을 형상화한다. 멀리에는 거짓말과 아첨으로 상처받은 사람들이 떨어져 서 있어, 파괴적인 말이 피해자와 말하는 자 모두를 망친다는 사실을 보여 준다. 이 장면은 시적인 정의와 도덕적 필연성으로 장을 마무리한다.
