Proverbs 26 (vv. 17-22)

At the edge of a village lane, one reckless man seizes a stray dog by the ears, instantly creating danger by interfering in what does not concern him. Nearby, another figure laughs after deceptive words, but behind the laughter the scene evokes a madman hurling flaming arrows—careless speech disguised as a joke yet capable of destruction. In the foreground, a small fire flares brighter as wood and charcoal are added, while whispering gossips lean toward eager listeners, showing how quarrels and rumors are fed until they burn hot.

마을 길가에서 한 경솔한 사람이 떠돌이 개의 귀를 붙잡아, 자기와 상관없는 일에 끼어들어 즉시 위험을 만들어 낸다. 가까운 곳에서는 다른 인물이 속이는 말을 한 뒤 웃고 있지만, 그 웃음 뒤의 분위기는 불화살을 쏘아 대는 미친 사람을 떠올리게 하여 농담으로 가장한 무책임한 말이 얼마나 파괴적인지를 보여 준다. 전경에서는 나무와 숯이 더해지며 작은 불길이 더욱 거세지고, 수군거리는 험담꾼들이 귀 기울이는 사람들에게 몸을 기울이고 있어 다툼과 소문이 어떻게 계속 부추겨지는지를 드러낸다.
