Proverbs 26 (vv. 13-16)

Inside a modest ancient home, a sluggard lies on his bed turning from side to side like a door on its hinges, trapped in motion without progress. He points fearfully toward the street as if imagining a lion outside, using exaggerated danger as an excuse to avoid work. Beside him, a bowl of food sits close at hand, yet his arm droops into the dish as though even eating requires too much effort. His expression reveals not only laziness but smug self-importance, convinced of his own wisdom above others.

소박한 고대의 집 안에서 한 게으른 자가 문이 경첩 위에서 돌듯 침상 위를 이리저리 뒤척이며, 움직이지만 전혀 나아가지 못한 채 갇혀 있다. 그는 마치 밖에 사자가 있는 것처럼 거리를 향해 두려운 손짓을 하며, 일을 피하기 위해 과장된 위험을 핑계로 삼는다. 곁에는 음식 그릇이 가까이 놓여 있지만, 그의 팔은 그릇 안에 축 늘어져 있어 먹는 일조차 너무 힘든 것처럼 보인다. 그의 표정에는 게으름뿐 아니라 다른 사람들보다 자신이 더 지혜롭다고 여기는 우쭐함도 드러난다.
