Proverbs 19 (vv. 4-7)

In the gate of a bustling town, a wealthy man in fine robes is surrounded by smiling companions, petitioners, and gift-bearers eager for his favor. In the same public space, a poor man reaches out pleadingly toward relatives and former friends who turn away, avoiding his eyes and slipping into the crowd. The scene exposes the painful social divide: wealth gathers many voices, but poverty leaves a man isolated even among those who once knew him.

분주한 성문 광장에서 화려한 옷을 입은 부유한 사람 주위로 미소 짓는 동료들과 청원자들, 선물을 든 사람들이 몰려들어 그의 호의를 구한다. 같은 공간에서 한 가난한 사람은 친척들과 옛 친구들을 향해 애원하듯 손을 내밀지만, 그들은 시선을 피한 채 군중 속으로 사라진다. 이 장면은 부가 많은 사람을 불러 모으지만, 가난은 한때 알던 사람들 사이에서도 사람을 고립시킨다는 아픈 현실을 드러낸다.
