Proverbs 13 (vv. 12-18)

광야 길가에서 지친 나그네들이 맑은 물이 솟는 샘으로 다가오고, 그곳에서 한 연로한 스승이 훈계를 건넨다. 오랜 기다림으로 마음이 병든 한 사람은 그 말을 받아들여 새 희망을 얻지만, 다른 한 사람은 교훈을 멸시한 채 숨겨진 덫과 험한 바위 쪽으로 흘러간다. 그때 봉인된 문서를 든 신실한 사자가 평화로운 태도로 도착해 근심하던 집안에 치유를 가져오고, 반대로 경솔한 전령의 길은 혼란으로 끝날 것을 암시한다. 이 장면은 지혜로운 가르침이 생명의 샘이 되어 사람을 멸망에서 돌이키고, 책망을 받는 자를 존귀로 이끈다는 사실을 보여 준다.
