Proverbs 12 (vv. 9-12)

A hardworking farmer tends both his field and his animals with care. He is not impressive by worldly standards, yet his land yields grain, his donkey is fed, and his household has enough. Nearby, in stark contrast, another man lounges idly chasing fantasies, surrounded by unfinished plans and empty hands. The scene illustrates that humble diligence and compassion produce abundance, while vanity and wicked desire leave a person empty and rootless.

한 근면한 농부가 자신의 밭과 짐승들을 정성껏 돌보고 있다. 그는 세상 기준으로는 눈에 띄는 인물이 아니지만, 그의 밭은 곡식을 내고 그의 나귀는 먹이를 얻으며 그의 집에는 필요한 양식이 있다. 그 곁에는 대조적으로 한 남자가 게으르게 앉아 헛된 꿈만 좇고 있으며, 미완성된 계획들과 빈손만이 그를 둘러싼다. 이 장면은 겸손한 근면과 긍휼이 풍요를 낳는 반면, 허영과 악한 욕망은 사람을 공허하고 뿌리 없는 상태로 남긴다는 사실을 보여 준다.
