Proverbs 11 (vv. 24-28)

In a season of scarcity, one household opens its storehouse and gives grain freely, refreshing the weary and feeding the hungry. The giver's jars seem to remain full, and grateful people bless the one who sells fairly instead of hoarding. Nearby, another man sits behind sealed bins of grain, guarding his abundance with anxious eyes, yet his withholding leads toward poverty and isolation. The scene embodies the paradox of the proverb: generosity leads to increase, while selfish hoarding brings loss; trust in riches withers, but righteousness flourishes like a green leaf.

궁핍한 계절에 한 가정은 창고를 열어 곡식을 아낌없이 나누며 지친 사람들을 새롭게 하고 굶주린 이들을 먹인다. 베푸는 사람의 항아리는 여전히 가득해 보이고, 사람들은 곡식을 쌓아 두지 않고 공정하게 내어놓는 자에게 복을 빈다. 가까운 곳에서는 다른 한 사람이 봉인된 곡식 창고 뒤에 앉아 불안한 눈빛으로 자신의 풍요를 지키지만, 그의 움켜쥠은 결국 가난과 고립으로 향한다. 이 장면은 잠언의 역설을 드러낸다. 곧 너그러움은 더 큰 풍성함으로 이어지고, 이기적인 저장은 상실을 가져온다는 것이다. 재물을 의지하는 자는 시들지만, 의로운 자는 푸른 잎처럼 번성한다.
