Numbers 32 (vv. 1-5)

The Reubenites and Gadites, seeing the rich pasturelands of Jazer and Gilead, come before Moses, Eleazar the priest, and the leaders of Israel. Surrounded by evidence of their great herds and flocks, they respectfully ask that this fertile land east of the Jordan be given to them as their inheritance, pleading that they not be required to cross the river.
