Numbers 17 (vv. 10-13)

After the sign is confirmed, the LORD commands that Aaron’s staff be kept before the ark as a lasting warning to the rebellious. The people, overwhelmed by the holiness of God and the seriousness of their rebellion, cry out in fear that they will perish if they come near the tabernacle. The scene captures the tension between divine mercy, shown in the sign, and divine holiness, which fills the camp with trembling.
