Numbers 16 (vv. 35-40)

After the earth swallows the households of the rebels, a second judgment falls: fire comes out from the LORD and consumes the 250 men offering incense. Their censers, however, are gathered by Eleazar and later hammered into a covering for the altar as a lasting memorial. The scene combines judgment and sacred remembrance, showing that even in wrath, holiness leaves a sign for future generations.

땅이 반역자들의 집안을 삼킨 뒤, 두 번째 심판이 임한다. 여호와께로부터 나온 불이 향을 드리던 250명을 삼킨다. 그러나 그들의 향로는 엘르아살이 거두어 나중에 제단을 입히는 판으로 두드려 펴서 영원한 기념물이 된다. 이 장면은 심판과 거룩한 기억이 함께 나타나는 순간으로, 진노 가운데서도 거룩함이 후대에 남을 표징을 남긴다는 것을 보여 준다.
