Nehemiah 9 (vv. 1-3)

The Israelites gather on the twenty-fourth day in a public act of repentance. They fast, wear coarse sackcloth, and place dust on their heads as outward signs of grief and humility. Separated from foreigners, they stand in solemn order while the Book of the Law is read for hours, and then they continue in confession and worship, turning the whole day into a sacred assembly of sorrow, truth, and renewed devotion.
