Nehemiah 7 (vv. 5-65)

Moved in his heart, Nehemiah gathers nobles, officials, and common people to register them by families. He discovers the ancient genealogical record of the first returnees and reads the names and numbers of clans, priests, Levites, musicians, gatekeepers, and temple servants. Among the assembly, some search anxiously for their family records but cannot prove their lineage, and certain priests are excluded from sacred service until a lawful decision can be made. The scene is charged with memory, identity, and reverence for holiness.
