Nehemiah 4 (vv. 1-3)

Sanballat, enraged by the rebuilding effort, publicly ridicules the Jews before his allies and the army of Samaria. Standing beside him, Tobiah adds scorn, mocking the weakness of the rising wall. In the background lie blackened stones and broken heaps of rubble, while the partially restored city hints that the work has already begun despite opposition.

산발랏은 성벽 재건 소식을 듣고 크게 분노하여 사마리아 군대와 동맹들 앞에서 유다 사람들을 공개적으로 조롱한다. 그의 곁에 선 도비야도 비웃음을 더하며, 세워지고 있는 성벽의 연약함을 비아냥거린다. 배경에는 불에 그을린 돌들과 무너진 잔해 더미가 놓여 있고, 그 너머로 부분적으로 복구된 예루살렘 성벽이 보여 이미 공사가 진행 중임을 암시한다.
