Nehemiah 2 (vv. 1-3)

In the Persian royal court, Nehemiah serves wine to King Artaxerxes, but for the first time his sorrow is visible. The king notices the sadness on Nehemiah’s face and questions him. Though afraid, Nehemiah respectfully explains that Jerusalem, the city of his ancestors’ tombs, lies in ruins and its gates have been burned.

바사 왕궁 뜰에서 느헤미야는 아닥사스다 왕에게 포도주를 올리지만, 처음으로 그의 얼굴에 슬픔이 드러난다. 왕은 그의 근심 어린 표정을 알아보고 이유를 묻는다. 두려움 속에서도 느헤미야는 조상들의 무덤이 있는 예루살렘이 폐허가 되었고 성문들이 불타 버렸기 때문에 슬퍼할 수밖에 없다고 공손히 아뢴다.
