Nehemiah 1 (vv. 4)

As soon as Nehemiah hears the report, he is overcome. He sits down and weeps, and for many days he continues in mourning, fasting, and prayer before the God of heaven. The scene captures both personal heartbreak and holy burden: a royal servant in a foreign palace carrying the pain of a ruined holy city far away.
