Description
As Jesus is led out to be crucified, Simon of Cyrene is compelled to carry the cross. The procession moves through the dusty road outside the city toward Golgotha, the place of the skull. The moment combines exhaustion, forced service, and ominous purpose, with the city behind and the hill of execution ahead. Jesus refuses the drink mixed with gall, choosing to face the suffering fully conscious.
