Description
Inside the Praetorium, Roman soldiers gather around Jesus to mock his kingship. They dress him in a scarlet robe, press a crown of thorns upon his head, place a reed-like staff in his hand, and kneel in cruel parody before him. The scene is visually powerful because the ridicule unintentionally reveals a deeper truth: the mocked prisoner is portrayed as a suffering king.
