Matthew 20 (vv. 6-10)

As evening falls, the vineyard owner orders the wages to be paid, beginning with those hired last. To the surprise of all, the men who worked only the final hour each receive a full denarius. The first workers watch in astonishment, their expectations rising as the fading light and the order of payment turn an ordinary payday into a moment of dramatic reversal.

해 질 무렵, 포도원 주인은 나중에 온 사람들부터 품삯을 주라고 명한다. 모두의 놀라움 속에서 마지막 한 시간만 일한 사람들조차 한 데나리온씩 받는다. 먼저 온 일꾼들은 그 모습을 보고 자신들도 더 많이 받을 것이라 기대하지만, 저물어 가는 빛과 역전된 지급 순서가 평범한 품삯 지급을 극적인 반전의 순간으로 바꾼다.
