Matthew 15 (vv. 1-9)

Pharisees and teachers of the law from Jerusalem confront Jesus about his disciples eating without ceremonial handwashing. Jesus responds publicly and forcefully, exposing how their human traditions have overridden God’s command to honor father and mother. He calls them hypocrites and invokes Isaiah’s words, declaring that their lips honor God while their hearts remain far away.
