Luke 9 (vv. 18-22)

In a private moment of prayer, Jesus asks his disciples who the crowds say he is, and then who they themselves say he is. Peter answers boldly, declaring Jesus to be God's Messiah. Immediately after this revelation, Jesus begins to speak of suffering, rejection, death, and resurrection, so the scene carries both clarity and shadow—recognition of glory joined to the mystery of the cross.
