Luke 7 (vv. 2-8)

In Capernaum, Jewish elders and later the centurion’s friends approach Jesus on behalf of a Roman centurion whose beloved servant is near death. Though a man of power, the centurion does not come personally, declaring himself unworthy to receive Jesus under his roof. He expresses extraordinary faith, believing that Jesus can heal with a word alone, just as a commander issues orders and they are obeyed.

가버나움에서 유대인의 장로들과 이어서 백부장의 친구들이 죽어가는 귀한 종을 위해 예수께 나아간다. 권세 있는 로마 장교인 백부장은 직접 나오지 않고, 자신은 예수를 자기 집에 모실 자격이 없다고 고백한다. 그는 지휘관이 명령하면 그대로 이루어지듯, 예수께서 말씀만 하셔도 종이 나을 것이라는 놀라운 믿음을 드러낸다.
