Luke 5 (vv. 17-26)

As Jesus teaches inside a crowded house, Pharisees and teachers of the law sit watching closely. Unable to enter through the packed doorway, several men climb onto the roof with their paralyzed friend and lower him on his mat through the tiles into the center of the room before Jesus. Seeing their faith, Jesus first forgives the man’s sins, provoking silent outrage among the religious leaders. Then he commands the man to rise, and the once-paralyzed man stands, takes up his mat, and leaves praising God as the whole crowd is seized with amazement.

예수께서 집 안에서 가르치실 때 바리새인들과 율법교사들이 주의 깊게 지켜보고 있다. 문으로는 들어갈 수 없을 만큼 사람이 가득 차자, 몇 사람이 중풍병 걸린 친구를 메고 지붕 위로 올라가 기와를 걷어 내고 그의 자리를 예수 앞 한가운데로 내려 보낸다. 그들의 믿음을 보신 예수께서는 먼저 그 사람의 죄를 사하신다고 말씀하시고, 이에 종교 지도자들은 속으로 분노한다. 이어 예수께서 일어나라고 명하시자 그 사람은 곧바로 일어나 자기가 누웠던 자리를 들고 하나님을 찬양하며 나간다. 온 무리는 놀라움에 사로잡힌다.
