Luke 3 (vv. 1-3)

Against the backdrop of powerful rulers and religious authorities, the true movement of God begins not in a palace or temple but in the wilderness. John, the son of Zechariah, stands in the barren land near the Jordan as the word of God comes to him. He then begins traveling through the Jordan region, calling people to a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.
