Description
At noon darkness covers the land, and the sun’s light fails as Jesus commits his spirit into the Father’s hands and breathes his last. The centurion, shaken by what he has witnessed, declares Jesus righteous, while the crowds depart in grief and those who knew him stand at a distance. Then Joseph of Arimathea courageously asks Pilate for the body, wraps Jesus in linen, and lays him in a new rock-hewn tomb as the women from Galilee watch carefully and prepare spices before the Sabbath. The scene moves from cosmic sorrow to quiet devotion and reverent burial.
