At the place called the Skull, Jesus is crucified between two criminals. Below the cross, soldiers divide his garments by casting lots, rulers sneer, and soldiers mock him as the king of the Jews, while the written charge hangs above him. In the midst of humiliation, Jesus prays, 'Father, forgive them,' and one of the criminals turns to him in faith, asking to be remembered in his kingdom. Jesus answers with a promise of paradise, transforming a scene of shame into one of mercy and hope.
