Luke 23 (vv. 26-31)

As Jesus is led away to execution, the soldiers seize Simon of Cyrene, a passerby coming in from the countryside, and compel him to carry the cross behind Jesus. A large crowd follows, including women who mourn and wail. Jesus turns to them and tells the daughters of Jerusalem not to weep for him but for themselves and their children, speaking of coming judgment.
