Description
When Joseph and Mary bring Jesus to the temple in Jerusalem to fulfill the Law, the devout Simeon, led by the Holy Spirit, recognizes the child as God’s promised salvation. He takes the infant in his arms and praises God, declaring that his eyes have seen the light for revelation to the Gentiles and glory for Israel. Yet his blessing also carries a shadow, foretelling opposition and sorrow, especially for Mary.
