Leviticus 19 (vv. 13-16)

At the city gate, where public judgments are made, elders hear a dispute and render a fair decision without favoring either rich or poor. Nearby, a laborer receives his wages before nightfall, and in the same visual field a blind man is carefully guided around an obstacle rather than being mocked or harmed. The scene gathers multiple commands into one image of social holiness: fairness, honesty, protection of the vulnerable, and reverence for God expressed through justice.

공적 재판이 이루어지는 성문에서 장로들이 분쟁을 듣고, 가난한 자나 부한 자 어느 쪽에도 치우치지 않고 공정한 판결을 내린다. 가까운 곳에서는 품꾼이 해 지기 전에 삯을 받고 있으며, 같은 장면 안에서 한 맹인은 조롱이나 해를 당하는 대신 누군가의 인도로 장애물을 안전하게 지나간다. 이 장면은 여러 명령을 하나의 이미지로 모아, 공평함과 정직함, 약한 자의 보호, 그리고 공의를 통해 드러나는 하나님 경외를 보여 준다.
