Leviticus 12 (vv. 6-8)

When the days of purification are complete, the mother comes to the entrance of the tent of meeting with her offering. In one powerful image, the passage’s compassion and holiness meet: a priest receives either a lamb and a bird or, for the poor, two doves or pigeons, showing that restoration to ceremonial cleanness is open to every household through the appointed sacrifice.
