Lamentations 2 (vv. 10-12)

The grief of the city becomes intensely personal. Elders sit on the ground in silence with dust on their heads and sackcloth on their bodies, while young women bow low in sorrow. In the streets, children and infants faint from hunger, asking their mothers for bread and wine as their strength ebbs away in their mothers’ arms. The scene centers on communal mourning and unbearable vulnerability.
