Lamentations 1 (vv. 1-2)

Jerusalem is portrayed as a once-crowded royal city now sitting alone in ruin like a grieving widow. She weeps bitterly through the night, abandoned by former allies and lovers who have turned into enemies, while the emptiness of the city itself becomes a symbol of public humiliation and private sorrow.
