Description
Jotham stands high on Mount Gerizim and cries out to the people of Shechem below, delivering the parable of the trees seeking a king. Olive tree, fig tree, and vine refuse, but the thornbush accepts and threatens destruction by fire. Jotham then applies the parable directly, exposing Shechem’s guilt and pronouncing a curse of mutual destruction between Abimelek and the city.
