Judges 1 (vv. 22-36)

The tribes of Joseph attack Bethel, and with the LORD’s help they gain entry through the guidance of a man who is spared with his family. Yet the chapter closes with a long list of tribes that fail to drive out the Canaanites completely, resulting in coexistence, forced labor, and territorial pressure. The final image is not one of a single battle but of a divided land—fortified cities still standing, mixed populations dwelling side by side, and the uneasy reality of incomplete obedience.
