Joshua 8 (vv. 21-29)

With the city burning behind them, the warriors of Ai find themselves trapped between two Israelite forces. Israel closes in from both sides, and the battle ends in complete defeat for Ai. The king is taken alive and brought before Joshua; later his body is displayed on a pole until evening and then buried beneath a heap of stones at the city gate, a stark sign of judgment and finality. The city itself becomes a burned ruin.

성 뒤에서 불길이 치솟는 가운데, 아이의 군사들은 두 이스라엘 군대 사이에 갇히게 된다. 이스라엘은 양쪽에서 압박하며 전투는 아이의 완전한 패배로 끝난다. 왕은 산 채로 붙잡혀 여호수아 앞으로 끌려오고, 후에는 저녁까지 장대에 달린 뒤 성문 어귀에 돌무더기 아래 묻힌다. 이는 심판과 종결을 보여 주는 엄중한 표징이며, 성읍은 불탄 폐허가 된다.
